The DARKNESS INSIDE

The greatest vampires are not born. They are made.

It’s 1825 Paris, where a few rich men live like kings, but most people barely survive. But sixteen-year-old Damon isn’t interested in wealth. He wants revenge.

For years, Damon has served Aurélien, the sadistic heir to the De La Coeur fortune. And for years he’s been plotting, watching, waiting for the moment to avenge his family by killing their murderer, Aurélien’s father, Olivier.

But on the night when Damon plans to strike, he’s accused of a murder he didn’t commit and Olivier has slipped away once again. Beaten within an inch of his life, Damon’s only chance is to do the unimaginable.

Sometimes the only way to destroy an impossible enemy is to die.

REVIEWS

“This is the prequel story to the ‘Into The Darkness’ series and what a great intro! Despite this only being 50, or so, pages this was a fast-paced ride set in 1820’s Paris about class struggle, love, hate, revenge, and the lengths someone will go to avenge the ones they love. It tells the beginning of Damon while also setting up for really interesting things in the future and I’m really excited to see where this story will go!”

“Man, do I love an origin story, especially a vampire origin story, and this one has bite. ‘The Darkness Inside’ is fun, quick-paced, and as dark as the title implies. It will leave you wanting more of Damon and his world. Fans of Anne Rice, Deborah Harkness, and Stephenie Meyer will eat this up (pun totally intended).”

- Kendra Alvey, Author of the Award-winning young adult Sam the Spectator series

“This is a unique, captivating take on the origin story of a young vampire, set in elegant but socially divided 19th-century France. As I read, I shared Damon’s desire for vengeance. When the time finally came, things turned out to be far worse than I thought. I can’t wait to read what comes next!”

REVIEWS

The Nirvana is a pleasure to read. It's dark, action- packed, and so much fun that you'll be sad when it's over. And, if you're a sci-fi fan like myself, you'll be absolutely delighted by some of the references. You might even do a dorky (but super cool) fist-bump.”

-Kendra Alvey, Author of the Award-winning young adult Sam the Spectator series

“Gripping and deliciously gory, ominous, suffocating, intriguing and yuck!. I couldn’t let it go. C. Darkly exposes her universe and its characters, in a manner both simple and clear even as the story complexifies and progresses to higher stakes...Loved it!”

REVIEWS

“When I read JAWS, I was instantly transported to Hawaii. I felt like I was experiencing the joy of surfing firsthand, even though I've never so much as touched a surfboard in my life. (Are they spongey? They seem like they'd be spongey.) The story is just that compelling. It moves quickly, you instantly get super invested, and then BAM, there's a fantastic ending. Can't recommend enough.”

-Kendra Alvey, Author of the Award-winning young adult Sam the Spectator series

“Waves and surfing, competition, conflict, and salty wind… like I was there. I strongly empathized with Mele. I so wanted her to let go, to find her true life purpose again, and to become one with that beautiful, exceptional wave. She got a tear out of me.”
